December 2015 Snow Policy

December 29th, 2015 General News

Dear Residents,

As the snow season approaches, we want to remind everyone of some our snow policies.

1.  There is sand/salt mixture for Hampton resident’s personal use located behind our town garage.  It is not intended for commercial use or to be used on properties outside of Hampton.  Your cooperation is appreciated so we can continue to provide this service while being as fiscally conservative as possible.

2.  The town’s snowplow versus mailbox policy is as follows. If you your mailbox is on a town road and it is struck by the town snowplow, please contact the Public Works Garage at 860-455-9715 or the Selectman’s Office at 860-455-9132 within 24 hours of the incident.  We will inspect the damage to determine if our plows are directly responsible for the damage.  Mailboxes and or posts that are damaged due to snow or slush contact are the responsibility of the homeowner.  If our plow has directly hit the mailbox or post, we will replace the damaged item with a standard size generic mailbox and or post.

3. Also, please be aware that according to CT General Statutes 14-252a and 136-221, “depositing of snow onto a roadway is punishable by fines.” Whether plowing, shoveling, or snowblowing, please make sure you or your contractor help us keep the roads safe.

Thank you for your cooperation.  Have a safe winter.

Allan Cahill, First Selectman

and

Toby Vertefeuille, Department of Public Works Foreman
