Gypsy Moth Caterpillars

June 25th, 2015 General News

Dry weather conditions this spring are responsible for an abnormal amount of gypsy moth caterpillars in the State of Connecticut this year.  Many Hampton residents are experiencing this first-hand as these nuisances are being reported around town. Although there is not much that can be done to reduce the amount of caterpillars currently, residents are urged to actively destroy any egg masses they may see which will start to appear in July and August. The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station is also closely monitoring the situation.  If you have an infestation of gypsy moth caterpillars on your property, please call 203-974-8500 so the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station may add your data to their information.
